about

Heatwave, the original group by that name ca. 1969, recorded 'Sister Simon (Funny Man)' in Pye Studios, London on 16th October 1970.
Friday 13th November 1970, Larry Page released their single on Penny Farthing Records.

Heatwave played the Liverpool Cavern Club for a week and is proud of its commemorative brick, 20 rows directly above 'John', in the Cavern Wall of Fame.

'Sister Simon (Funny Man)', the A-side (PEN 738 1F), still receives radio airplay while 'Rastus Ravel (Is A Mean Old Man)', the funky B-side, was still being played in London and Tokyo clubs in 2000.

In addition to a solid dance beat and tight vocal harmonies, the group was also known for its pyrotechnic display of fire-eating by Martin.

6.10.2020, Lori Dean, Program Director, added 'Sister Simon & 'Rastus Ravel' into rotation.

lyrics

SISTER SIMON (FUNNY MAN)

Sister Simon funny man
hangs his sign out when he can
Sister Simon funny man
hangs his sign out when he can

he's only a postman in the daytime
he wants to be mostly what he's not
but you can't take no notice now
you've just got to listen to him tellin' you more

Sister Simon funny man
hangs his sign out when he can
Sister Simon funny man
hangs his sign out when he can

he's only a part-time barman weekends
he wants to be a big-time man on freak-ins
but you can't take no notice now
you've just got to listen to him tellin' you more

Sister Simon funny man
hangs his sign out when he can
Sister Simon funny man
hangs his sign out when he can

Sister Simon Sister Sister Simon
Sister Simon funny man
Sister Simon Sister Sister Simon
Sister Simon funny man
